Traffic Congestion
Traffic congestion in Flushing is one of the worst that you can find anywhere in our great city. While the Department of Transportation has instituted various studies, corrective measures have not positively impacted the difficult situation. Once and for all, the Community Board in conjunction with the Department of Transportation, the City Council and the Mayor’s office should commission a study that could effectuate real change. This is not time to pad the pockets of those who contract with the city but it's time to hire someone who can be innovative, creative and committed to resolving a plight that has affected the community and taxpaying citizens.
Additionally, if we want to encourage people to use mass transit, then we must make it a viable alternative to driving. Trains and bus service must be increased to accommodate the increases in ridership. Public transportation must be clean, safe, reliable and affordable so that people readily choose mass transit over their own personal vehicles to reduce the horrendous traffic conditions that exists throughout our city.
